Microsoft and Github are Developing GVFS for MacOS and Linux


If you thought hell was freezing over when Microsoft switched to using the Git SCM for version-control of Windows development, it just got a little colder, as it’s been announced that Microsoft and Github have joined forces to bring the Microsoft-developed Git Virtual File System (GVFS) to clients on MacOS and Linux.

GVFS aims to improve compatibility and speed of Git for use with massive Git projects by various means. You can read more in the story from Ars Technica.


I was really confused because GVFS already stands for “Gnome Virtual Filesystem”…


Interesting, I havn’t seen that before. I can see how it holds the potential to cause confusion.
